Bob Marley In Bucharest, Romania - Bucharest Expat

Buchexpat went round to the El Negro studio last week to listen to the rehearsals for the Bob Marley evening, and to meet the guys again, and I have to say, they were excellent!!

In fitting with the theme, I only seem to be able to find Bob Marley photos that would suit our site if all our readers are potheads. Oh well... going for a great look anyways.

Bucharest To Amsterdam Road Trip - Bucharest Expat

From B to A… Expat Style. The conversation between the Bucharest Expat team and a friend of ours went something like this: Anyone interested in joining me for a road trip? Where are you going? Amsterdam. What are we driving? An Audi TT. I’ll be packed in five minutes. When do we leave???

After the initial enthusiastic reaction, the real world arrived with one or two minor concerns about the distance, Romanian roads and the possibilities for bad weather but this did not deter. The planning process was brief (which route and where to stay which turned out to be interdependent) and one very recent Friday evening we set off for Venice of the North.

I am thinking that we road test an old Dacia 1310... why the heck not? It is the stereotypical Romanian thoroughbred... may as well see what happens!

Allan S. Lolly & Your VISA Fears Come True? - Bucharest Expat

Programmer - It is good that you are friends with Mr. Lolly and vouch for him. I have many friends that will vouch for me also. It is good to finally here the absolute truth about this business, that is so reassuring. I also don't question his knowledge related to family visas, I simply put in to question his business practices and the way he handles his customers (yes there are many unhappy customers out there with similar issues)

There are a ton of complaints out there on this firm... I see I am not the only one with big problems in dealings with Allan S. Lolly! Check this one out too... http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110102102459AAAQlN6

Lesson Learned

So here is a hot tip for everyone including myself to write down and remember:
Never fall victim to artificial deadlines!

I was working on building a clients' website, who I told would receive there website in 3 weeks from start to finish. Well it was about a week into it today, and they said if I wanted to see the other half of my money soon I should finish the site by tomorrow, as he would be leaving to NY for a month... wtf? I don't think so! Ofcourse I hustled to finish the sites, pulling an all-nighter and he was a no-show today for the meeting. Lesson learned.

Immigration Visas

What To Look For In Good Immigration Attorney

Always make sure that the attorney has a spotless record.

Take the time to seek out past and current clients of your desired attorney to hear what they have to say.

Steer away from any firm that has unresolved client dispute REGARDLESS of who is at fault. Whatever happened to "the customer is always right"?

Make sure you have all the facts before submitting or signing ANY documentation. Facts come from people that have gone through the process, NOT from the people/companies providing the service.

Document everything throughout your process. I would have questioned my friend with his complaint had he not shown me all the supporting documents. Always cover your bases.

If you can find an attorney through word-of-mouth from someone trusted, then that is the best route to take.

Meet your attorney in person. Don't let them hide behind the phone, a receptionist, multiple paralegals, or the net.

Give yourself more time than you actually need. This is a long process. Plan ahead.

Very very interesting. I see how important due-diligence can be when choosing a Visa Attorney. Definitely important to know on my travels abroad!

Allan Lolly's Reviews - La Jolla, CA Attorney - Avvo.com

My wife and I retained Allan S. Lolly & Associates in order to obtain my wifes visa into the US. We hired this firm in the summer of 2008, and to this day retain them as council. Throughout the process they have transferred us between three paralegals, each having unacceptable prior knowledge of our specific case, and have additionally misplaced our documentation. Just recently we have asked for a refund and have not received one as of yet.

Lawyer's Comment: This comment is factually incorrect. Proper documents were not provided by the client. The case file is well-documented. The relationship was difficult. It was best to return legal fees as requested. The bank received the charge back and this is also documented. Funds were returned and the case was closed.

Wow.. and yet I see another one!

Allan Lolly's Reviews - La Jolla, CA Attorney - Avvo.com

Allan Lolly & Assocs. represented my wife and I in an immigration matter. The whole process felt like an immigration mill; we were treated like an account not like clients. He did a sufficient job (she got her green card so I can't say he failed us), but I just felt that I could have found a better person to represent me. For instance, when I called with a tax filing question the firm told me to go check the IRS website; not the service I was expecting for what I was paying them. Also through out the whole process the only time I was able to reach an actual attorney was the initial 'getting my business' call.
Like I said earlier, my wife did get her green card, but I would not recommend Lolly to a friend because I could never recommend a lawyer that I would not go back to myself.

Lawyer's Comment: The comment is about service, not knowledge.

When providing service at a competitive rate, we want to give complete support and have open communications, within reason. For most clients, routine email exchanges work well. Phone calls are useful for discussion and emergency needs, and we have phone support for this purpose.

There are a few clients who tend to be compulsive and will call as issues arise. I do not know about this particular client. More generally, compulsive behavior causes disruption in work flow and so somehow boundaries must be set. I am available to assist on issues as needed, especially when problems arise. All clients have my personal email address. Where things go smoothly, my involvement is not required. It is important to have trained and capable staff, which we have.

As for tax filing questions, I am not familiar with the particular issue. A client should consult with a CPA or perhaps directly with the IRS on tax filing matters. We do not advise on tax matters, only on immigration requirements.

I personally strive to promote a healthy attorney / client relationship. I appreciate the comment and we will look to improve.

It is hilarious to see the mass amounts of obviously fake comments promoting this scam of a company. Positive comments seem to go unrecognized while the asinine Allan Lolly spits back in the face of those with complaints.

Getting more out of my blogs

Every time I sit down to focus on my blogging.. I recall a line in the tv show "Californication" in which Hank is feeling lousy due to the fact that he may have to take a job as a blogger as opposed to a writer. Is it really that bad? Could my dreams of blogging success be shattered? Well I have just read an article about someone who regularly sells their blogs for 20,000 USD  a pop. Not so bad eh? It is also belivable as I have sold 66% of one of my blogs for 8,000 Euros (10,500 USD) so pretty darn close! I think I will continue writing "winning content" and let's see what happens.

Getting more out of the internet

Recently (after the New Year) it seems as though business is picking up a bit. More clients for web design, one being www.RosaHermosaBeachApartments.com in Bavaro, Dominican Republic, as well as some potential clients from supermarkets here locally. Very interesting. One of the things I am noticing... a lot... is that businesses that need online marketing and advertising the MOST are the very same ones that aren't willing to spend one penny on getting it done, as their "budget" just doesn't support it. Hmm.. I wonder why.

Have you ever heard if Allan S.Lolly and associates immigration firm before? - Yahoo! Answers

It is my recommendation that you steer well away from this firm, Allan S. Lolly and associates when seeking a fiancee visa or any other immigration assistance. Lost documents, passed from paralegal to paralegal, etc... much to tell... email me directly for more info regarding Allan S. Lolly.

I can't reinforce this point enough: If you meet someone overseas and decide to pursue a visa you MUST make sure you don't make the mistake of choosing the wrong attorney like I did. It will steal years away from your life....

Romanian Witches To Pay Income Tax? - Bucharest Expat

Yep.. it is World News now… Romanian witches! Doesn’t help much for the Dracula filled images in Romania in nearly every foreigners mind does it? Now it’s Draculas, witches, and fortune tellers (oh my!). So do you want to know the secret to untold fortune, fame, and glory in Romania? The answer? Use the power of spells, sorcery and prophecy! We’ve seen the undying belief in uncommon religious practices, we’ve seen or heard of the hundreds, even thousands of Romanians that continue to seek refuge in the promises of others, but now we see that these tellers of fortune didn’t quite see this one coming…. or did they?? Imagine our suprised looks on our faces when we opened up Yahoo news to find, front page, that Romanian witches should now pay income tax. Well why shouldn’t they? They earn a taxable income from this creative form of entrepreneurship don’t they? Well Romanian witches seem to think otherwise. “Tax me and you shall be cursed”.

Here’s a snippet from the Yahoo article you’ve gotta read:

By ALISON MUTLER, Associated Press Alison Mutler, Associated Press Wed Jan 5, 3:33 pm ET

MOGOSOIA, Romania – Everyone curses the tax man, but Romanian witches angry about having to pay up for the first time are planning to use cat excrement and dead dogs to cast spells on the president and government.

Also among Romania’s newest taxpayers are fortune tellers — but they probably should have seen it coming.

Superstitions are no laughing matter in Romania — the land of the medieval ruler who inspired the “Dracula” tale

Hah! We heard about this while living in Bucharest now it's on Yahoo of all places. This is absolutely hilarious!

A Fresh Start For 2011 From Elite Coaching - Bucharest Expat

As we turn the year into a fresh year it’s a great time to reflect on the year that has finished, review the good and bad aspects of your life and also the highs and lows, once this is done, you can then start to set targets for the next year, reviewing your life is very important to being able to find where you are now, and then be able to move forwards.

Being a fan of personal power, and even "The Secret" I think that you'll start to see a lot of Life Coaching businesses pop up in the upcoming year. Hopefully some of them are worth what they promise!

The Solution To All My Forum Woes

I have many, many websites out there on the web that I am trying to run, and I have noticed one very common thread; EVERYONE has difficulty posting, whether it be on the traditional Wordpress commenting system, Disqus, or even on forums (the latter is clearly the most confusing unless you grew up a computer nerd). I think I have finally found the solution and it takes the form of a question and answer board. Simple. To the point. Why didn't I think of this before!!!!!!

Enjoy Blue Marlin Fishing At Punta Cana Deep Sea Fishing - Punta Cana Deep Sea Fishing

Marlin are popular salt water big game fish that weigh from 100-500 pounds with bodies that can reach 10-13 feet in length. They’re found in all major oceans, the Pacific, Indian, and Atlantic. Blue marlin are well-known fighters and, therefore, a favorite for deep sea sports fishers. To catch them, you must know their habits and character.

Finally Google picked up this website of mine and started ranking it. Day one: bottom of second page... let's see if we can do a little better in the next few days.

Is The Middle-Class A Thing Of The Past For Bavaro? - Punta Cana Luxury

Is The Middle-Class A Thing Of The Past For Bavaro?

As for U.S. citizens we think we will begin to see them feel the consequences of the economic crisis even more in the future. As gas prices in the States begin to creep up, and more and more people face the harsh reality that they must cut their expenditures… then yeah, we’ll see the impact globally. Where the middle-class market of Bavaro will draw from will be from the countries in which there is an arising middle class whether it be through churn in their local marketplace

This is a snippet from one of the articles on Punta Cana Luxury Marketplace. I am trying to spur some discussion about Punta Cana Luxury Real Estate and the "Middle Class Conundrum" that seems to be going on around the World right now...

Fireworks FAIL

New Year's eve in Punta Cana was an extreme flop. I think it was the "economic crisis" fireworks display. Much better fireworks displays many years back. Time was better spent going home and working on some posts for www.BucharestExpat.com. We're having a bit of a problem defining what an "expat" actually is. Some people just have no clue. That's enough for my daily rant...
